Health and Fitness Calculators from cal.caulate.it
cal.culate.it produces a range of Body Mass Index (BMI) and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) calculators for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Your BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms, by your height in meters squared. A result below 20 indicates you are underweight, between 20 and 25 is considered ideal, above 25 as overweight, and above 30 as obese. There is evidence that if your BMI is below 20, or above 30 then there is an increased rick of developing certain disease such as diabetes and heart conditions (see What is body mass index (BMI)? for more details).
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of energy your body requires per day to maintain your current weight. This value is dependent upon your weight, height, age, sex and level of activity. Knowing your BMR is useful if you want to gain or lose weight as it gives your basal calorie requirement (see What is basal metabolic rate (BMR)? for more details).
