cookCal 2.0 - a kitchen calculator
cookCal is a very simple to use calculator for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The calculator is designed to help with those tricky kitchen calculations where you have to work out the cooking time for food based on weight.
With cookCal you can work out how long food should be cooked when you have been given the weight (pounds (lb) and ounces (oz), or kilos (kg)) and the time per unit of weight.
In addition, the calculator now has a number of preset cooking times per pound, and times per kilo, built in for beef (rare, medium, and well done), chicken, duck, goose, lamb (medium rare, medium, and well done), pork and a range of turkey sizes (further information).
- You need to cook some meat that weighs 4 pounds (lb), 3 ounces (oz) for 15 minutes and the 20 minutes per pound, with a final 20 minuted standing time.
- The food needs to be cooked at 45 minutes per kilo, and it weighs 3.765 kg, with a standing time of 15 minutes.
- You know that you need to cook something at 25 minutes per pound, and yet the weight is in kilograms.
The calculator can also be used to work out what time the food will be ready, or what time to start cooking to have the food ready for fixed time.
