bodyCal - a BMI and BMR calculator
bodyCal is a Body Mass Index (BMI), a Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), and waist/hip ratio calculator for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Your BMI is calculated using a fairly simple formula and the number returned is often used as an indicator of 'health'. There are data that do show that if your BMI is above, or below, certain values then there can be a direct impact on your heath, however, the calculation fails for the 'professionally fit' (e.g. athletes with high muscle mass), the young and the elderly.
Your BMR is the amount of energy your body would use in a day to stay alive and to maintain your current weight. Your BMR is dependent upon your sex, your weight, your height and your age. In addition, the figure can be adjusted for your type of lifestyle e.g. sedentary, light active etc.
The calculator can be used for metric (weight: kilogram (kg); height: meters (m)), pound (weight: pounds (lb); height: feet (ft) and inches (in)), and imperial (weight: stones (st) and pounds (lb); height: feet (ft) and inches (in)) calculations of your BMI and BMR.
The calculator will report your BMI and BMR and automatically converting between different units (so, if you enter pounds the calculator can also tell you the kilograms). For your BMI the calculator will give you the ideal weight range in your preferred units. Plus, if you are over or under-weight the calculator will report by how much you need to change your weight.
The waist/hip ratio will calculate the waist/hip ratio for the given values.
